Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016 Day Retreat with actor/director Fr. George Drance, SJ Sheen Center for Thought & Culture, New York, NY 9 artists met for Mass at St. Malachy's - The Actors' Chapel followed by brunch with current artists-in-residence at the Sheen Center. After Mid-Day Prayer, the retreatants met for several group sessions exploring Ignatian discernment and contemplation, interspersed with times for private prayer, contemplation, and practice of the Examen. Retreat leader Fr. George Drance, SJ provided practical advice for observing the movements of the Spirit in one's life and prayer, and for maintaining a daily practice of examination and contemplation.
Friday-Sunday, Feb. 17-19, 2017 Weekend Silent Retreat Loyola Jesuit Center, Morristown, NJ 7 artists spent a weekend in silence on Loyola Jesuit Center's 33 acres. Retreatants were able to meet with retreat director Fr. Kirk Reynolds, SJ; experience Mass in the intimate Christ the Priest Chapel; walk the outdoor Stations of the Cross; pray over John Paul II's Letter to Artists and a collection of psalms, poems, and prayers for artists; and spend time alone with God, as well as meeting fellow Catholics and other Christians in the arts.
Friday-Sunday, May 5-7, 2017 Weekend Ignatian Artist Retreat with actor/playwright Br. Joe Hoover, SJ Jogues Retreat, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY 7 artists (a mix of playwrights, actors, and visual artists) gathered for a weekend of prayer and creativity at Jogues Retreat in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. The retreat included shared Mass and prayer, an introduction to the Examen, and sharing about spiritual and artistic goals, as well as focused time for creative work, individual reflection, and long walks in the woods and rain. Wildlife encounters included the resident deer and wild turkeys.Retreat director Br. Joe Hoover, SJ, a playwright, actor, and co-founder of Xavier Theatre Company, led the group in artistic and spiritual exploration through Ignatian spirituality and acting exercises.
